Album Review: 방탄소년단 (BTS) – Map of the Soul: Persona

After releasing the Love Yourself album series between September 2017 and August 2018, BTS has released a new album on April 12th, 2019. Though BTS’ popularity is nothing new, with the release of this album many records were broken. The music video for Boy With Luv broke 3 YouTube records, most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours, most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours, most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.

For Map of the Soul: Persona BTS teamed up with several other famous artists. The title song of the album Boy with Luv features Halsey, and they worked with none other than Ed Sheeran on the song Make It Right. The album Map of the Soul: Persona has many influences, but the album itself is based on the book Jung’s Map of the Soul. Jung’s theories are also directly referenced in the Boy with Luv song.

  1. Intro: Persona
  2. Boy with Luv (작은 것들을 위한 시) (ft. Halsey)
  3. Mikrokosmos (소우주)
  4. Make It Right
  5. Home
  6. Jamais Vu
  7. Dionysus

I personally really love the new vibe this album has. While I expected a different kind of vibe based on the comeback trailer Persona, I must say that I enjoy this different approach. As someone who has been a fan of BTS since the beginning of their career, one of the things I appreciate so much is their ability to keep their music from becoming boring. With every album there is this something different, something new, which keeps me interested in seeing whatever they are going to release next. My personal favourite song of the album is Make It Right, and I really hope they will perform it when I will see them live in Paris this June.
