NEWS is a (formerly 6) 4 membered Japanese boyband, consisint out of Koyama Keiichiro, Masuda Takahisa, Kato Shigeaki and Tegoshi Yuya. The meaning of the groups name is North, East, West, South. Formed back in 2003 by Johnny Entertainment, they started of as a nine-membered group. Their promotional single was called “NEWS Nippon” (which means NEWS Japan), this song was also used for the World cup of Volleyball championships in 2004. In 2004 Takahiro Moruichi (Now well known as Taka from One Ok Rock) left the group because of personal reasons. Then the now 8 membered groups released their debut single, “Kibo: Yell” (Hope: Yell).

Due to controversy surrounding Hiroki Uchi and Hironori Kusano, NEWS was left as a 6 membered group. In 2006 they released Sayaendo (which was used as an ending song for the well known anime One Piece) and Hadashi no Cinderella boy (Barefoot Cinderella boy). After a short hiatus, they released “Hoshi o Mezashite” (Aim for the stars). In 2008, they had their first Tokyo Dome performance and they also released a new single “Happy Birthday”  which made NEWS the second Japanese group to have 10 consecutive (Oricon charts) No. 1 singles since their debut (following after their label mates KinKi Kids, which were the first group to do so).

In 2011 Yamashita Tomohisa (Better known as YamaP) and Ryo Nishikido decided to depart from the group. Yamashita decided to focus on his solo career while Ryo choose to be a full Kanjani8 member rather than switching between the groups, due to overlapping schedules.

In 2012 NEWS returned as a 4 membered group. They released a Best of- album, which also included the love of the fans, as they were able to let them know what their favorite NEWS songs were, those were included on the Best of-CD. Later that year they released a new single called “Chankapana”.  Ever since then they have released 8 Singles and 4 Albums and they are still active as a 4 Member group.
