Artist: The Lemons

Unbeknownst to the majority of the world, The music scene in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia is thriving and buzzing with talent. We’ve heard of Hanggai and The HU but as I am always searching new types of music and new bands I was looking through the list of most well known artists from Mongolia and the name that struck me the most was The Lemons. It took no longer than 20 seconds for me to decide that this was a band I’d listen to often and I want to share this with our readers.

Started in 2004 with their shared passion of live music and their backgrounds either laying in music school or musical families the four members found eachother and formed the group The Lemons. Vocalist Odbayar Ts. also with this band became a bit of a style icon as he always wears sunglasses and a hat. Enkhtulga A. on guitar, Anar D. on bass and Unurbayar M. on the drums. It took until 2006 when they released their debut album Red, which is described as similar to The Strokes’ earlier work, and played the first and biggest Mongolian rock festival Playtime Festival when they collected a following and returning back to the festival every single year and gaining more fans every single time. Mostly due to their unique fresh sound and poetic lyrics, written mostly in Mongolian, along with their passionate performances.

Red was released with 7 songs, of which Hairtai and Dzuud Noirondoo became instant hits. It was released in 20187 as a vinyl with only 500 copies. this album held 10 songs.
