Marry My Dead Body

Starting out with homophobic policeman Wu Ming-Han trying to bait young men at a gym, he is sure that all gay men carry and try to sell drugs. When this doesn’t work out and he gets scolded by his boss he works even harder to try and catch another guy after chasing him with a car for a long time. After the car crashes and they try to catch the guy by foot he fails again and is sent back out to collect evidence of the car crash. While picking up bits and pieces here and there he picks up a red envelope. Red envelopes are a traditional method to entrap someone into a ghost marriage.

As a total disbeliever of the supernatural he tells the grandma of the ghost he was supposed to marry now to get lost but her grandson, the late Mao Mao, starts to haunt Wu Ming-Han; absolutely scaring the living hell out of him until he agrees to a gay ghost marriage.

While unhappy with his gay ghost marriage he tries his best to escape the husband only he can see and starts working closely on  a case with a plicewoman Lin Tzu-Ching. Who he is rather interested in. Because Mao Pang-Yu won’t leave him alone they together try and find out how Mao passed away, talk to those who he loved to find a way for him to pass on and reincarnate.  Leading to funny, exciting and heart warming moments in the movie.

Rating: 4/5

I actually am in between giving this a 3 or 4 rating; The beginning was really funny and I thought it was going to be more of a BL story in the beginning but it ended up being much more dramatic than I anticipated and I cried so much with the ending of the movie. There were a lot of moments where I was just laughing because it was just a bit silly. So overall I really enjoyed watching this movie even if I had to do it in two parts due to lack of time. I really liked how the movie progressed from the ridiculous start it had with horror elements to something so wholesome in the end. The way there was a plot twist was also good and somehow in the beginning I didn’t think this would happen like it did. If you want something light and airy or just a laugh watch this.

This entire movie however made me look up another series with Austin Lin who plays Mao Mao. A review of those series will be up soon.
